Broadcast Journalist

George Addo Jr. is an accomplished broadcast journalist with a remarkable career in sports broadcasting. His journey began in 2009 when he joined Radio Univers as a student and swiftly rose to become the Head of Sports in late 2010. For four years, he hosted the popular segment “Sports Digest” on the Morning show. During his tenure at Radio Univers, Addo covered two editions of the Ghana Universities Sports Association Games (2009 and 2011) and two editions of the West Africa University Games (2010 and 2012). Additionally, he was part of two bilateral games between the University of Ghana and the University of Ibadan. Notably, Addo was the first commentator of the University of Ghana Football League, having run over 200 live commentaries on Radio Univers.
Addo’s first international career football commentary occurred on radio via Joy FM 99.7 in Accra, Ghana, where he provided commentary on the Spain vs. Netherlands match at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, showcasing his in-depth knowledge of the sport during the prestigious tournament.
At the Multimedia Group Limited, Addo hosts and produces various sports shows across the group’s English sister brands, including Joy Sports Center and LockerRoom on Joy 99.7FM, Touchline on JoyNews, and Hitz Sports Update on Hitz 103.9FM.


Addo Jr. has an impressive track record of running football commentaries in English, spanning six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments (AFCON), two Euro Tournaments including the EURO 2020, five UEFA Champions League Seasons, three FIFA World Cup Tournaments including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and seven Ghana Premier League seasons.
In the world of Athletics, he has provided comprehensive coverage for the Multimedia Group Ltd at major events, including the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, the 2018 Indoor Athletics Championship in Birmingham, and the 2018 Africa Athletics Championship in Asaba, Nigeria.
After a decade at the Multimedia Group Ltd, Addo joined the BBC in Salford as a football reporter in 2023. At the BBC George is a regular voice on BBC Sports Today program on the World Service on weekdays, Newsday, which is the most listened Morning World show and on Sports World which is a 4- hour updates of live sports happening around the world at weekends.
Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he was appointed as the English lead Commentator for the official broadcast rights holder Newworld TV, working on-site in Cameroon alongside African football legends such as Emmanuel Adebayor, See Bassong, Didier Drogba, Solomon Kalou, Basile Boli, El Hadji Diouf, Wilfried Bony, and Tony Baffoe, among others. George also worked as a communications consultant when the German giants Borussia Dortmund visited Ghana for the first time and subsequently worked on other projects. He has been selected on three occasions by the German Bundesliga as part of a team to discuss strategies for increasing the popularity of the German game in Africa and other key regions, working closely with clubs like Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Schalke, Monchengladbach, and Bayer Leverkusen.
