George Addo Jnr’s broadcasting career commenced during his student days at the University of Ghana, where he volunteered as a commentator for the university’s radio station, Radio Univers. His exceptional commentary skills caught the attention of the President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association, who promptly appointed him as the commentator for the National Beach Soccer leagues. Subsequently, Addo Jnr was designated as the lead commentator for the University of Ghana Football League, a role he held for nearly three years. Throughout his tenure, he delivered over 200 commentaries, encompassing university games, Ghana Universities Sports Association events, and the World University Games.
Upon joining Ghana’s largest media house, Multimedia Group, Addo Jnr’s international football commentary career took flight. His debut on the global stage occurred during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he provided live commentary for the Spain vs. Netherlands match on Joy FM 99.7, showcasing his profound knowledge of the sport. Addo Jnr continued to excel, commentating on the 2014 FIFA World Cup final between Germany and Argentina at the iconic Maracanã Stadium. His exceptional performance led to his promotion as the English Lead Commentator for Multimedia Group.


Addo Jnr’s early works with Multimedia included comprehensive commentary on seven Ghana Premier League seasons, five UEFA Champions League campaigns, five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, three FIFA World Cup tournaments, and two Euro tournaments. He made history during the 2020 EURO tournament, partnering with Gary Al Smith for TV commentary on the Joy Prime Channel, which was broadcast nationwide on free-to-air television. Notably, Addo Jnr had the honor of providing commentary from the Wembley commentary hub, covering the EURO 2020 Final between Italy and England, which was broadcast globally.
In 2023, George Addo was announced as the Lead English Commentator for the Official AFCON Broadcast rights holders, New World TV. He delivered television commentary for African countries in English, from the opening games through to the final. Addo Jnr collaborated with esteemed African football legends, including former African Footballer of the Year Emmanuel Adebayor, former Cameroon International Seb Bassong, former Marseille and Ivory Coast legend Basile Boli, former Ivory Coast Captain Didier Drogba, and ex-Chelsea winger Salomon Kalu, among others.
Addo Jnr has provided reports on numerous on field and in studio football reports on Premier League and FA Cup matches for the BBC’s Sunday and Saturday Sports World programs. His repertoire extends to athletics commentary, having covered many European African and World meets. He had the privilege of directly covering the World Athletics Championships from 2017 to 2023 and the 2018 Africa Athletics Championships in Asaba, Nigeria.
